Arthur Osver

American, 1912 - 2006


Arthur Osver was born in Chicago in 1912. Between 1931-1936, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago with Boris Anisfeld. In 1940, he moved to New York to teach at the Brooklyn Museum of Art and Columbia University. In 1952, he won the Prix de Rome. Osver went on to teach at Yale University, New Haven, CT and Cooper Union in New York, NY. In 1960, Osver became a professor of Art at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., retiring there in 1981. His artwork can be found in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, (MOMA), New York, NY The Whitney Museum, New York, NY and the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2006, Osver died in Webster Grove, MO at the age of 94.
