Claire H. Ruby

American, 1925 - 2005


Claire Ruby was born Klara Bohuarat in Lucenec Slovensko, Czechoslovakia in 1925. She immigrated to the United States in 1946. She studied art at the Budapest Fine Arts Academy in Hungary and then attended the Art Institute of Chicago, after arriving in the United States. She worked briefly as a commercial artist, but followed her dream of being a fine artist. Ruby was represented by the Richard Thompson Gallery in San Francisco. Ruby was best known as a painter of landscapes and still-lifes. She died in Appleton, WI in 2005.
