Marion Lukens was Russian born and emigrated with her family to the United States in 1913. She graduated from the Lewis Institute of Technology (Which became IIT) and had a career as a writer before turning to painting and sculpting. She taught at the Art Institute of Chicago for over 15 years and exhibited at the Art Institute from 1938-1951, winning numerous prizes. Lukens also exhibited at the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago. In a 1961 article, the Chicago Tribune referred to her as a ”renaissance woman”. In 1955, she had a solo show at the the Chicago Public Library. In 1961, she met her untimely death at the age of 54.
