Carolyn Dow Tyler

American, 1867 - 1951


Carolyn Dow Tyler was born in Chicago in 1867. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago with famed Art Nouveau painter, Alphonse Mucha. Tyler became a member of the Chicago Society of Artists and exhibited at the Annual Exhibitions of the Art Institute of Chicago. She became best known for her many portrait miniatures. Her work can be found in the collections of the Illinois State Museum, Springfield, IL and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, Washington, D.C. Tyler died in Evanston, IL in 1951.
