Alois Lecoque was born at Prague in 1891. Becoming an artist at an early age, he studied and painted in many parts of Europe, including his native lPrague as well a Paris, Rome, Naples, the Dalmatian seashore, and the Isle of Capri. He emigrated to the United States in 1951 and briefly took up residence in Chicago. He later moved to California and established a studio at Laguna Beach. Lecoque was the recipient of many prizes. In Paris, at the prestigious Academie Julian, he studied under Professors Marcel Baschet, Emil Bernard, and others. Later he worked with famed Impressionist painter August Renoir. Lecoque published several novels, some of them translated into both English and French. Exhibitions include London, 1912; Paris, 1925; Biennale di Venezia, 1926-1928; and Prague, 1926. The artist died in California in 1981.
