Publications
Richard Norton Gallery often publishes catalogues to accompany it's exhibitions. These catalogues are typically dedicated to an individual artist represented by the gallery or a special collection of historically important artwork. Such gallery publications are fully illustrated with photographs of the exhibited artwork and are accompanied with insightful essays and biographies written by independent scholars.
Richard Norton Gallery has often published catalogues dedicated to rediscovering past masters of early Twentieth Century Modern American painting. Many of these artists were members of the avant-garde, and were active leaders in specific national and regional artistic movements or fields of painting. Many of these artists achieved considerable fame and national recognition for their artwork during their lifetimes. Many were important instructors and art teachers, often to students who likewise reached historical significance.
An important role of the gallery is to reintroduce the artwork of these historically acclaimed painters to a contemporary audience. Often, the artwork presented by the gallery has not been seen by the public in over half a century. Gallery catalogues serve as useful biographical references. Gallery publications help to preserve and document an artist's legacy, and can further contextualize the historical merits of a specific collection.
Great paintings uniquely depict and define the spirit of their age, and visually will resonate with present and future generations alike.
