Elizabeth Eddy

American, 1907 - 2002


Artist and poet Elizabeth Eddy was born in Cleveland, OH in 1907 and was orphaned at a young age. She studied at the Cleveland School of Art and after her parent’s deaths, moved to Detroit, MI to live with her aunt, where she attended the Cranbrook Academy of Art, studying with Zoltan Sepeshy. She further studied with Arshile Gorky at the Grand Central School of Art in New York, NY, the Institute of Design in Chicago, IL with Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, and at the Art Institute of Chicago with Max Kahn. She was an instructor of art at the Fort Wayne Art School and at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. She exhibited at Art Institute of Chicago, The Renaissance Society of the University of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, NY, the Pennsylvania Academy, Philadelphia, PA, the Butler Art Institute, Youngstown, OH, among others. Her work can be found in the collections of the Museum of the Cranbrook Academy of Art, the Cleveland Print Club and the Fort Wayne Art Museum. Eddy died in Kankakee, IL at the age of 95.
