George W. Mengelson

George W. Mengelson was born in Catasauqua, PA in 1916. He was an artist, poet, writer of children’s stories, film producer and an engineer. He received his engineering degree from Lehigh University in 1939. His artistic ability was largely self-taught He was employed by both Bethlehem Steel and consolidated Vultee Aircraft Company. He worked on the structure and design of aircraft.

Mengelson is best known for his sketches of the Bethlehem, PA area. He exhibited widely throughout Pennsylvania. He produced four television programs on art for WJAC-TV in Johnstown, PA.

He died in Skippack Township, PA in 1998.
