John (Giuseppe) Liello was born in Stromboli, Italy in 1882. Liello immigrated to New York City in 1900 and became an American citizen in 1919. Liello served in the Infantry during WWI. He studied at the Art Student’s League in New York City and went on to work as an artist at the famed J. Walter Thompson advertising agency in New York. In 1922, he embarked on a ‘grand tour’ visiting and painting throughout Europe and North Africa. Liello exhibited with the Society of Independent Artists and the Salons of America in New York City. Five works from his world tour were selected for exhibition at the Salons of American Art in New York in 1936. Liello died in Altamonte Springs, Florida in 1967 at the age of 75.
