In 1958, John Kazann became one of the founding members of the Phoenix Gallery, which was part of the 10th Street art collective in New York City. He studied with Hans Hoffman and worked as a Merchant Marine, traveling to Europe and South America.

From 1952-1958, Kazann submitted numerous works for review to the Guggenheim Museum of Art. Kazann’s typically large canvases often depict abstractions of violins.

“My objective is to innovate, discover different techniques or paint objects much different than usual or integrate extreme objects as an abstract or semi-abstract technique,” Kazann said.
