Joseph (Giuseppe) Restivo

Italian/American, 1896 - 1948


Joseph (Giuseppe) Restivo was born in Sutero, Sicilly on December 30, 1896. He emigrated to America and settled in Chicago. Restivo attended classes at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he studied with the noted instructors, Albert H. Krehbiel and Louis Ritman. The artist often enjoyed painting large, urban scenes of his adopted city of Chicago. He maintained a studio at 4413-17 N. Central Avenue. Professionally, Restivo worked for the Kalita Art Studios at 1102 Vernon Park Place, where he designed and painted Italian pottery, porcelain and china. Restivo passed away on October 3, 1948. He is buried in Oakhill Cemetery in Geneva, Illinois.
