Lesley Buckland Crawford

American, 1887 - 1963


Born in 1887, Lesley Buckland Crawford graduated from Vassar College in 1908. Crawford attended the Art Student's league of New York City and was a former student of Kimon Nicolaides (1891-1938). The artist was active in New York, Summit, NJ and Springfield, Vermont. She was known for her Urban Realist inspired paintings, watercolors and lithographs, and colorful landscapes of Vermont. She traveled and painted in Guatemala, Italy and Greece. Crawford was one of the founders of the Miller Art Center in Springfield, VT in 1956. She was also associated with the Southern Vermont Art Center in Manchester, VT, and the Summit Art Association, Summit, NJ. A 1940s lithograph of the Staten Island Ferry is in the collection of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. The artist died in Springfield, VT. in 1963.
