Seppo Kärkkäinen was born in Pielisjärvi, Finland in 1935. He studied at the Free Art School from 1956-59. Kärkkäinen was a founding member of “Group 4”, which was an important art collective in Finland that promoted the development of Finnish Abstraction and Constructivism. He is best recognized for his large scale Post-War abstract paintings, frequently incorporating geometric line and form with an innovative color palette. He died at the age of 86 in 2022 in Järvenpää, Finland.
